Author Profile: P. Wise aka Pretti Wise

P. Wise aka Pretti Wise

     P. Wise (Pretti Wise), born Kristen Marin, is a dynamic force in both the literary and creative worlds. An acclaimed author with 28 published books and counting, Pretti's writing journey began under unique circumstances while serving time in federal prison. A graduate of Harcum College and Wilmington University, she once excelled as a basketball player and coach. Today, her talents extend beyond writing; she is also a professional graphic designer and screenwriter, stepping confidently into the film and creative industries. Passionate about giving back, Pretti is a dedicated philanthropist and prison activist, advocating for second chances and supporting community initiatives. She resides in Trinidad and Tobago with her daughter, Millennia Reign, who inspires her every endeavor. What inspired you to become an author?     During my time in prison, I read extensively, immersing myself in one book after another. The authors' writing inspired me to write my own stories. With so much to share, I decided not to limit myself to a single book. Instead, I planned to spread my various experiences across multiple books. What was the inspiration for your latest book?     The inspiration for my latest book came from reflecting on my own experiences after being released from prison with very little—just a barrel of used clothes, an old Android phone from my grandmother, and a few dollars from my aunt. Looking back at those days and seeing where I am now, I realize how much I've achieved despite starting with nothing. Although starting over can be daunting and challenging, it can sometimes be a hidden blessing. A fresh start can often bring great opportunities.

In my latest book, "A Thug Made For Me: A BBW Love Story," the main characters face similar challenges. They must begin again and work hard to overcome their circumstances.

Describe a typical writing day.

A usual writing day involves me working on a chapter or two from morning through to the afternoon. During the time I pick up my daughter from school and spend time with her until bedtime, I often find myself daydreaming about my scenes to ensure a smooth writing session later. Once she is asleep, I return to my laptop to write another chapter or two at night. What do you like to do when you're not writing?     When I'm not busy writing, I cherish spending quality time with my daughter. Writing for me includes books and screenplays. If I'm not engaged in writing, I'm often involved in graphic design. Additionally, I enjoy watching movies and shows, listening to music, and occasionally going out to unwind. Is writing your full-time career? Or would you like it to be?     Crafting amazing page turning novels is my primary profession, complemented by graphic design. I'm grateful and lucky to have a supportive audience and client base that allows me to sustain myself through my writing and design expertise. What is your favorite part of being a writer?     What I love most about being a writer is the freedom to create anything I desire. I can express my experiences or observations through storytelling without fear of judgment. What was your favorite book when you were a kid?     When I was a child, the Dr. Seuss books were my absolute favorites. As I grew up, I became fond of the Harry Potter series and "The Giver." If you could cure a disease, what would it be?     If I had the ability to cure a disease, it would be cancer. I've lost numerous loved ones to it, and with a cure, countless lives could be spared. What would you like to say to your readers?     Without you all, there’s no P. Wise. I appreciate everyone from the bottom of my heart.
