Author Profile: Sandra Nicole

Meet Author Sandra Nicole

Tell us about yourself.

I am Sandra Nicole. I hail from the town of Bedrock, aka, Flint, Michigan. I am a single mom of four who found writing as a way to escape reality, while channeling my own experiences with toxic relationships through books.

Tell us about your latest book.

My latest book is A Mann for Valentine's Day, which is the sequel to a Mann for Christmas. The story follows Miracle Johnson and Joseph Mann on a journey where they come from two different lifestyles: Joseph is a millionaire who runs a design firm, Miracle is a struggling marketing genius who just hasn't discovered her true worth. Joseph's sister isn't too welcoming of Miracle because she sees her as just another woman who is after her brother's money. What results is a tale of a love that seems almost like a fairytale, only with drama built in.

To you what difference do you see between a writer and an author?

A writer is someone who writes anything--magazine articles, reports, etc. An author is someone who writes books and novels that are published.

What comes first for you — the plot or the characters — and why?

I develop my characters first because they help me write the story and kind of steer the direction of the plot and influence the level of drama that will be infused throughout the pages of the book.

What is a significant way your book has changed since the first draft?

I felt like I made Miracle a character that was needy, but she wasn't. She was just misunderstood. I have also gone through to add more context to Joseph's background.

How do you celebrate when you finish your book?

When I finish a book, I breathe a sigh of relief, and then think about when I want to do another book. Sometimes I may treat myself to dinner or something. Finishing a book is definitely no easy feat.

What do you think of NaNoWriMo? Worth it?

To be honest, I try to participate in NaNoWriMo but I always end up doing my own thing. It's worth it if you need that push and accountability to write a book in a month, but for me, once I start a book, I'm not stopping until it is done, and that's usually in a few days.

What are the essential characteristics of a hero you can root for?

They are willing to stand up for what they want. They protect what they love. Even if they get knocked down, they are not afraid to stand back up. When it looks like all of the odds are stacked against them, they persevere.

What books do you enjoy reading?

I enjoy reading urban fiction books, romantic suspense books and even some thrillers. I read nonfiction books that help me improve on my craft as a writer and author.

What would you like to say to your readers?

I would like to thank every reader who has taken a chance on my work. I appreciate you so much and you keep me motivated to continue writing.
