Meet Author Tywanda Brown-Johnson

Tell us about yourself.

Tywanda Brown-Johnson is an impressive author and publisher. She was born and raised in Newberry South Carolina, where she still resides. Discovering her love for writing in 1997, however, it wasn't until 2014 when she released her debut book Love Games. In 2014 she was nominated for best new author by Urban Books.She has since gone on to write many amazing titles. By 2016 and 2018, she was named one of the top 100 authors of the year by Urban Authors. Tywanda Brown-Johnson prides herself in stepping outside of the box and writing under multiple genres.

She has many accomplishments not only is she an self-published author, Johnson obtained a Bachelors of Science Degree in Business Administration from Newberry College in 2012. Also she is 1/3 owner of Loyalty Reigns Publications which founded in 2016. She is not done yet she is currently working on several upcoming releases. Tell us about your latest book.

My latest book is In Search of Love, Peace & Family. It’s my first attempt at Urban Christian fiction. It’s about three sister all facing separate trials and tribulations all while trying to be there for each other.

None

How do you develop your plot and characters?

I have a character development sheet that I fill out for every character, before they make an appearance in the book. As far as the plot goes I first focus on the climax (the big problem), once I have the climax or problem, I focus on the solution or ending. Once I have an ending, I go back and begin writing the actual story out because I now have an goal. First goal is to get my characters to the problem, that’s the easy the part, the hard part is getting them to the second goal the solution.

What advice would you give to a writer working on their first book?

Take your time and do the research.

What do you need in your writing space to help you stay focused?

Music

Do you have pets? Have pets ever gotten in the way of your writing?

I have several pets…6 dogs and 2 cats. My male cat, who’s name is Ivan, thinks he’s my co-author. He loves to walk across the keyboard until I take a break and give him love.

Have you ever killed off a character your readers loved?

Yes

How many hours a day do you write?

2 to 4 on a good day
