Tell us about yourself.
My name is Aquintas “Quint” Jones, born and raised in Bridgeport, Connecticut. I am a mother of 2 beautiful young ladies and a grandmother of 3.5 children. My youngest daughter is pregnant. I am a domestic violence advocate; a student; and I am the founder of “My Life Has Destiny Ministries” which is a corporation and a resource and consultation ministry. This ministry helps others turn their pain into purpose.
Has writing and publishing a book changed the way you see yourself? Writing has turned my pain into purpose. It has given me confidence and a chance to not only help others to get to know themselves but, it has allowed me to get to look internally at myself.
What books do you enjoy reading? (Please name at least 3)
I enjoy reading books by Rebecca Brown: Becoming a Vessel of Honor, Prepare for war, and He came to set the captive free.
What was the most valuable advice you’ve been given about writing? The most valuable advice I have been given about writing is to never stop. Don’t give up. Someone needs to hear my story/testimony.
What is your writing process like? Are you a plotter or a pantser?
I have more of a non-fiction writing style. Most of my writing is based on real people and real events that have taken place. And some of my writing is based on self-help. For example; Get Up & Get Out Your Own Way! Sets a foundation for women to build confidence in themselves. And my book The Art of Forgiveness gives a structure of where a person can start, and learn to forgive.
How many books have you written and what is your favorite?
I have written 4 books. My favorite is “Black Love Matters” which is a children’s book that sets a foundation for love. It shows a child where love starts.
At what point do you think someone should call themselves a writer? A person should call themselves a writer if they have a passion to write. If the only thing one can think about is writing and they have something to say, they start the process of writing. Then you, my friend, are a writer.
What in your opinion is the most important element of good writing?
The most important element of good writing is being able to help yourself, and then your writing goes out to help others.
Can you share something about your current book that isn't in the blurb?
My current book Black Love Matter is based on family. It shows people that love begins at home. There are different types of love and love does not start with getting a partner. However, you learn who you are by the love your family sets as a foundation.
What famous authors do you wish would be your mentor?
Honestly, I follow a few authors, but I don’t necessarily look for one to mentor me. If I had to be coached by someone, I would say I love Lisa Nichols, because she didn’t let anything stop her, no matter the circumstance.
What would you like to say to your readers?
I would say to my readers, do not allow situations and what negative things people have to say about you, to stop you from being a writer. People are going to talk, whether it is good or bad, you tell your story, you get the word out, and realize if people have time to put your name out there, they are giving you free publicity. It will cause others to want to get to know who you are. Let them network on your behalf. The best thing you can do to get even succeed, and not give in. If they stated, you are never going to be anything. Then know you have a purpose, and You are valuable. Never stop writing.
